Butter Products

The right dairy product, year round

Due to the seasonality of Irish milk production [high in Spring/Summer, lower in Autumn/Winter], Irish Butter has a Summer and Winter profile. Summer butter has a softer butter fraction while winter butter has a harder butter fraction with both having different applications. For example, winter butter is more suitable for some bakery applications while softer summer butter is easier to spread and therefore better for retail use.
Quality Irish Butter

Great quality butter can give a product or dish an extra special flavour, and you simply can’t beat the taste of our internationally acclaimed Irish butter.

Ireland has a long history of processing butter and across the world, Irish butter is recognised as one of the premium butters for quality, taste and consistency.

Ireland’s milk production has grown steadily in recent years, with over 8 billion litres of milk produced in 2019/2020 and from this, the Irish market produced 240,000mt of butter, 97% of which is exported.

Along with growth in milk production, there has also been a steady increase in butterfat levels in Irish milk deliveries, driven by increased cow numbers and better cow genetics.

As Irish cows are predominately fed from grass on pasturelands and spend most of the year grazing outdoors, it provides a butter with a unique flavour and colour. The beta carotene naturally found in grass gives Irish butter a more yellow hue to the product, compared to cows that are fed indoors from feedstuffs which give a product that is whiter in colour.

Grass fed, hormone free butter has become increasingly more popular across the globe as consumers look for products that are safe to eat and where they have confidence in its origin.
